Deepfakes are highly realistic AI-generated videos that can make anyone appear to say or do almost anything. Because of this, they are often created for nefarious purposes. We used them to make a point, but they could pose a very real threat to society.
That’s why we’re raising awareness for the DEEP FAKES Accountability Act, a proposed bill that could mitigate the damage caused by deepfakes.
This legislation aims to:
Provide prosecutors, regulators, and victims of deepfakes with resources such as detection technology
Establish criminal penalties for false digital impersonations
Require creators of deepfakes to disclose and watermark them as such
Ensure manufacturers of deepfake technology comply with proposed disclosure and watermark laws
